| December 2006 Newsletter
We are hoping that all of you, (our guests, past, present and future) will see our newsletter on our website so you can keep up any changes or things that we are doing for our business. Putting our letter on our website instead of mailing letters to you, will be the most effective and fastest way for us to correspond.
Before I go any farther, I am going to take time to wish each of you and your families a very merry christmas and we wish all of you a very happy and healthy new year. It is hard to believe that the year is nearly gone already. It wont be long and we will be going full speed again and getting ready for the upcoming season.
This past year was another good year. With all of the controversies going on between the border crossings, the passport regulations, taxes, regulations and rules, and what we have to deal with all of the time to have a smooth running season. But having customers that have become more to us than our customers, it makes this job very enjoyable. We consider you to be our guests, but you are our friends. And we get anxious to see you come again year after year. Of course, we are always looking for new guests, too, so we want you to know how much we appreciate your recommendations of using our services to your friends and acquaintances.
We have told each of you about the hope of selling our store/airbase office on Clearwater and moving the airbase to Dryden. We are still working on the closing of the sale. I spoke with the purchaser and the environmental study has been done. We have expected that this would be required. Why it takes so long to get someone to give you these answers is a hugh question. Now just waiting for the paperwork to be completed for this and he is off to the bank. This has been dragging out for so long, but it does look now like it is getting close. We are going to notify each of you as soon as this major accomplishment happens. What we are not sure of now, will be if we would have time to make a move and be set up by the opening of the new season. If we have time, we will be there. IF not, we will have to rent our office from the purchaser of the store or build our office on our adjoining property to the store. Either way, we will notify you as soon as we know which way we are going to turn. If we can make the move, we will send all of you a list of motels to overnight the night before your fly out to the lake, and if we are still on Clearwater, we will let you know and you will need to get in touch with Lucas and Nikki to reserve a cabin the night before. Dont just assume they have you down for staying. If you have not gotten a confirmation from them in the mail, they are not reserving a cabin for your group that night before your flight to the lake. So.....You will need to phone them at 807-482-1388 or email at Ladams@jam21.net. We will let you know by posting it on our website, so be sure to check it out periodically. Please!!!
We did sell the Cessna 206 last month. We have gotten back for the small airplane a Cessna 180. Not a big change for the company, but it will be to the pilot. He will go from one small plane to another, without any difficulty.
The weather here this past season was extremely dry. The lake levels were low most of the season and if we dont get allot of moisture this winter, the levels will be extremely low in the spring. I normally dont hope for allot of snowfall, but this year NEED to have high moisture
The guys were able to get some extra carpentry work done at a few cabins this season. Wright Lake cabin received a face lift, with new siding, a new roof and new kitchen cabinets. Youll be excited to hear that they built new outhouses at most of the cabin sites. New boat ramps and dock work was done at a few lakes and the guys added new walkways at some of the lakes, from the lake to the cabins.
We mention the Catch n Release program to you each year to show just how much it does for the lakes. More and more of you comment each year on the numbers and also the sizes of the fish at the lakes. You yourselves can see how much difference it has made over the years.
We have received many questions about the new passport regulations. The last we have heard is that if you are crossing borders from Canada to US by vehicle, you will need to have your passport by 2009. If you are crossing through the borders by air or water, then you need them NOW. We are strongly recommending that you just do it. The applications are not going to get any less, so you might just as well file your application and have it done. If you wait until the time is here, there will so many applications filed that it will be forever before the offices are able to process each one. You know you have to get one eventually, so why wait? Just do it.
Again the border crossings were causing problems for a number of people trying to cross into Canada. If you have any type of charges against you on your record, there might be a chance that you are denied entry into Canada.
If you have questions on entry, check out these websites to see if there is any information you might need before your trip

These are websites we have heard of that will offer you some information for these situation.
We would like to ask any of you if you have any photos that you would like to share with us and with anyone that looks at our website. We are always hoping to have new photos to share and show to everyone. If you do, the best way to get them to us is the digital. They are the best quality for us to send on to be posted. So hopefully we will be flooded now with photos.
Also, we need to remind allot of you that the deposit required for us to reserve a trip for you has gone to $300 per person. This was raised to $250 a few years ago and now we have found necessary to raise it to $300 each. Some of you are still sending deposit that was required 5 years ago or so. Please note this change for your deposits. Also there will be a 3% charge for final trip payments on credit cards. We will take Visa or Master Card for your final payments the day you arrive, but we will be adding a 3% charge for this convenience. You might want to be sure to have means of other payment. That is up to you.
Travis has taken a new job this past May. He was promoted to Chief Inspector with his new employer. He still does some of the flying for us on weekends when he has some time off. He cant give up flying completely. Chris has taken a job at a new dental clinic, too, in May. It is a little longer drive for her each day, but not as stressful at this job as the last one that she was in charge of running of that whole office.
Lucas and Nikki have purchased a couple of our outpost cabins which is helping their own business to expand.
Hunter is in the 4th grade this year. He turned 9 in October. Growing up right before our eyes. He got his own 4-wheeler this summer. He thinks that he might have found what he wants to do for his occupation when he grows up. Oh boy.
Madeline and Matraca are in grade 1. They were 6 years in June. Both of them are in figure skating this winter. Seem to be born naturals at this sport. I would love to get out there and try it with them, but Im afraid I would fall and not be able to get back up. So we just go to watch.
Larry has enjoyed his place in Montana this year a bit. He blends right in out in that country. Didnt get much chance to work on his bunk house yet this year, but he will try to get some done in between the sport shows.
The shows are very limited. We will have a booth at St Paul show January 10-14 at the St Paul River Center and we will have a booth at the Minneapolis Sport show March 27 to April 1 at the Minneapolis convention Center. Most of the reservations come from the internet now and not much from the sport shows any more. So that is what we focus on.
Shane will be doing most of the flying again this year. He gets first crack at the flights and Larry or Travis get what he cant do. He truly enjoys what he does. Guess that is why he does such a great job.
I worked the store myself this year as you all know. The older one gets, the more you have to do I guess. But I am ready to NOT do so much anymore. I feel like I have done my share. I want to slow down and do more of the things we want to do. The office wont get rid of me just quite yet. But I am hoping to do only that and not run two different businesses.
Once again, we wish you all very well during the holidays and we hope your magical moments last throughout the year.
If you go to the front page of our website you will see BLOG. We would like to invite you to click on the "Blog" page and write what you would like to share with other customers about your trip with L & M. It should be interesting oncec more of you would begin to share your experiences.
